Russian govt yet to decide on state alcohol production monopoly
MOSCOW, Mar 17 (PRIME) -- The Russian government is discussing the establishment of a state monopoly for production of alcohol, but a final decision is yet to be made, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said during a lecture at Moscow’s Financial University.
“We have such proposals, and they are discussed in the government, it is true,” he said.
In December 2015, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Khloponin said Russia needs state monopoly for production of medical alcohol, as unfair entrepreneurs may use it in production of alcoholic products, which is against law. But the government in October 2015 rejected a bill establishing the monopoly as it may lead to higher illegal alcohol production.
